i can't get her into an internet cafe, damn it.
our evening at patpong was thwarted as there was no more room on the night train, so we had to take a night bus that was leaving much earlier. so, instead we wandered along rattonburi road, got the most amazing facial of my LIFE at this little outdoor place for about $6, ate some pad thai and had a beer. we got on our night bus, which was air conditioned to a lovely temperature of about -23C. we were all borderline hypothermic by the time we reached our first toilet stop (there was one on the bus, but there's really nothing grosser than a bus toilet that you have to scoop water into to flush. seriously.) but we've arrived in chiang mai, we'll stay here for about 3 days then head to laos. i think some treks are in the plans, some night bazaar shopping and some r&r'ing. probably a few massages in there too.
it's a thai holiday today so again we can't get our vietnam visas, so hopefully we can get things started tomorrow. on the plus side there's been a parade already today and lots of celebrations, so it should be good times. we've made a crazy australian friend, eliza, no trip is complete without a crazy aussie.
