tasha - reflections on thailand.

well, we're officially in laos. what an adventure. but before i talk about that, let's discuss thailand. more so, how thailand has changed.

the people are different. they no longer think with hearts first then heads - it's all about business money money money. not all people, just - well, a lot of the ones that deal with tourists. i don't blame them, we come waltzing in exclaiming "four dollars for a room? that's outrageous. well, cheap compared to what we pay at home". we're morons.

the toilets are different. other than two pees in public bathrooms, i've had sitters this whole time. last time, only my one hotel in bangkok had a sitter. i got thighs of steel last time (especially after dysentery) but not this time. and everywhere has toilet paper. you still can't flush it, which is still really gross, but still - i'm carrying around 2 rolls for nothing, so far.

it's become more expensive. i found a train receipt in my bag from my last thailand trip, and i paid 482 baht to go from bangkok to chiang mai. (that's about 12 bucks). now - it's 851 baht.

the country is richer. there are more new cars on the road, construction going on, and toddlers everywhere. guess it's an economic boom. thanks, whitey.

ok. that's it. now i'll talk about laos.
