it is so much busier. i'm sad, but it's still amazing. it's not nearly as relaxed/hippy as it was 5 years ago, like people aren't smoking pot in the street and you aren't offered opium everywhere you go, it's crazy. you hear the sounds of saws and hammers all day, i guess 5 new guesthouses have gone up in 4 months. there were only 10 in 2002. crazy.
we've decided to stay another night and catch the early early bus back to chiang mai tomorrow to leave for laos. it's just too great. we're up here with eliza, and shea ran into a girl she worked with in australia, so she's here too. the handsome argentinian friend of the cute brazillian came along, which is an added bonus (he's a yoga instructor and massage therapist. plus, he thought shea and i were twins, and couldn't believe i was 31. i think it might be love). last night after a crazy windy bus ride up here, where shea nearly peed her pants because she drinks 23942387 litres of water a day, we had some singa by the fire in the laid back riverside, watched these hot air lanterns being released and listened to some live music. it really is the life up here. i'll be sad to leave all these people.
today we're renting some scooters and checking out the countryside - apparently there are some stellar waterfalls nearby, so i'll keep you posted.
